Hello everyone! Welcome to week four of social distancing.
I hope you are well. Please continue to take care of yourselves. I miss seeing all of you every day but stay safe … stay home.
Hopefully, my web site has made it a bit easier to access your information needed for assignments…
https://lweatherly.weebly.com
Remember to pay close attention to the “Lesson Plans” tab and the “Class Information” tab. All links are hot. All you need to do is click on them and they will take you to the site. I will still post on Schoology, send out the email distribution lists with the information as well, so this will give you three ways of accessing the assignments. Use whichever is the easiest for you. Also, do not forget to pull up a word document, type your writing prompts and your grades for your assignments, attach it to an email, and send it to me.
Concerning completing assignments and grading, the following is an excerpt from an email from Dr. Perrigan:
“Essential Skills
The new teaching that will be provided from this point forward will be instruction on Essential Skills that students have not learned but need to be successful in the next grade (2nd grade to 3rd grade) or in the next course (Algebra 1 to Geometry). Since SOL testing was getting ready to start, most Essential Skills had already been taught and most of the remaining instruction would have been review and enrichment. Teachers will assess student progress toward those Essential Skills, but an Official Grade will not be given. Teachers will communicate with students’ what skills will be taught and how they will be assessed. Middle and High School Students who master these Essential Skills will be awarded a Verified Credit, which replaces the need to take an SOL Test and should be ready for the next class in sequence. Elementary students will be prepared to be successful with material at the next grade level.
Summer Session
If a student does not make adequate progress towards mastering the few remaining Essential Skills, a Summer Session will be provided. Middle and High School students who don't master the remaining Essential Skills would need to attend the Summer Session in order to be awarded a Verified Credit for graduation to replace the need to take the SOL Test and to ensure they don’t struggle in the next sequential course. Elementary students who do not master the remaining Essential Skills would need to attend the Summer Session to ensure that they do not struggle at the next grade level.”
Starting on Monday, April 13, 2020, we will be remediating skills that were lightly touched upon throughout the year and looking more aggressively at writing and grammar until the end of the year. The essential skills that you need to successfully master will be the writing of the poems and the IXL lesson found in the “Lesson Plans” Tab for the week at https://lweatherly.weebly.com
I will be making phone calls this week to those of you I have not heard from in a while or at all.
Take care!
